Changes for the Fall Semester 2025:
Fixed TA for a group of students
Every TA supervises 8 students throughout 6 different experiments. The experiments and the days when you supervise your students are defined, typically once every 2 weeks. You will therefore also have different experiments to teach, which might reduce boredom for you.
Dates and Times
The lab course takes place on various mornings and afternoons, depending on the course of studies. All relevant dates (intended for students) are on the corresponding page for the course of studies.Introductory Meeting:

- TAs supervising students of D-EAPS/D-HEST: Tue 2nd Sept 2025, 14:00 - 15:00, HPP K 25
- D-PHYS (even weeks): Mon, 29/9 OR Wed, 1/10 OR Fri, 3/10
- D-PHYS (odd weeks): Mon, 6/10 OR Wed 8/10 OR Fri, 10/10

Testing your experiments
Before the students come to the lab you should test your experiment. Ideally, you do this in the week before the experiment with your students take place. If you want me to be present and/or if you have specific questions, please coordinate with me. Else, just let us know one day ahead such that we can make sure the lab is open and not occupied (students are in the labs on 6 half-days/week!)AI and plagiarism
As well as you, most students are aware of artificial intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT or Gemini from Google. ETH recently released a statement and guide lines for AI in teaching and learning. Please see here for more details: AI Guidelines. In short: ETH Zurich encourages responsible and transparent use of AI in education. BUT students and lecturers should recognize its limitations. Students have to ensure that their work remains original and they have to be transparent and fair when working with AI (i.e., state when AI has been used for language improvement etc.). Also, it is important that you are aware of the rules about plagiarism, and that you tell the students about it. See more details here: Plagiarism.Improving the Manuals
There are always things to improve. If you have suggestions or spot mistakes (language, formal, content), please let me know, and help improving the manuals. Also, if you have any kind of constructive feedback, I very much appreciate it! Ideally you send your feedback via mail.Grading the report
Below you find a table should serve as basis for grading the report. Note that it is ideal to give a separate grade for the measurement/experimental execution and for the report. Also, the grading table is rather generic and might need to be adapted to the specific experiment you are supervising.Assessment Grid | |
